The best places in California to live in 2017
With the drought in the spotlight, Malibu farmers have been taking a closer look at their future.
In a series of posts, MaliBios reader-submitted pictures show how their farm has been adapting to the drought.
While some of the photos depict an area in dire need of water, others show how they are preparing to adapt.
In one post, reader Sarah said her father had just started a new crop of strawberries.
She said she had been in the fields for about two weeks before the rain.
“My dad is going to harvest strawberries and he needs me to be his little girl to do it,” she wrote.
“I am hoping that by the time I am done with the strawberries, he can bring them back home and sell them.”
It is the only way I am able to get some money to pay for my education, as well as my mortgage, so I am just waiting for the drought to end.
“Sarah said she was worried about her father.”
He told me he is worried about my health, and I don’t think that is true.
I do feel like he is taking it very seriously and is taking the extra care he needs to do to make sure I can still do it and be here when I grow up.
“MaliBos reader Rachel said she and her husband were expecting their first child soon.”
When I found out that I was pregnant I started worrying and I said, ‘I don’t want to have another baby because I want to grow up to be like my dad.’
“He is a big fan of gardening and has always been there for me.”
But when the drought hits, it’s hard to see how he can do that for me.
“Rachel said her husband was trying to prepare for the future.”
There’s nothing more important to him than his kids, so we have had to work hard on that.
“We are trying to plan ahead so that we have plenty of space for them and enough food to feed them.”
Malibu Farm has been providing a place for families to live and work since 2007.
“Malibu Farms was one of the first farms to be built on this area of the coast, so it is really important to us that we keep this place open,” Mali Bios managing director Ben Kastel wrote in a blog post.
“Our goal is to make this area as vibrant as possible, which means we want to make it possible for families, and especially families with small children, to stay in the Malibu region.”
